Sweden and Scandinavia

About Sweden

Sweden is the third largest country in western Europe. Because of its long, narrow shape and northerly location, the landscape is highly diversified and there are many opportunities to enjoy the varied landscapes. There are a great variety of out-door activities on offer.

Outdoor activities

Outdoor skating in winter
Cycling and boating in summer

In wintertime, Sweden is a haven for winter sports such as skiing and skating, while in spring and summer you can enjoy trekking, mountaineering, canoeing, fishing and many other activities.

Sweden gives its citizens and visitors alike a right of public access. This right allows you to go more or less anywhere, as long as you do not damage the landscape or animal life, and you show due consideration to landowners and others who are out in the countryside.

Sweden is known for its education and health care systems and for its high taxes which provide economic security in the event of illness, disability, old age and to families with children. The support to families in terms of child allowance, parental benefit and the right to kindergarten at low cost, is outstanding in Europe.

Sweden also has a long tradition of voluntary work organising sports and other activities for children. It is probably the most child-friendly country in the world, wherever you want to go the kids are welcome.
